Clairva Raises US$500,000 to Build Licensed Data Infrastructure for the Next Generation of AI

Clairva has raised US$500,000 in pre-seed funding in a round led by Venture Catalysts through its angel network.

The funding has also been covered by publications including BackScoop, The SaaS News, Passionate in Marketing and Dealroom.

The investment will support Clairva’s work in building licensed, provenance-backed data infrastructure for world models, embodied AI, robotics, multimodal systems and autonomous agents. AI is moving beyond systems that read and generate information. The next generation of models will need to understand movement, human behaviour, physical environments, objects, actions and cultural context. Training such systems requires more than large volumes of video. It requires data that is legally sourced, properly structured, culturally representative and suitable for commercial model development.

Clairva is building this layer.

We work with content owners, studios, archives, institutions and contributor networks to turn real-world video and audio into structured behavioural signal. Clairva’s technology supports dataset ingestion, rights and provenance tracking, metadata generation, temporal segmentation, action and object recognition, privacy workflows, quality validation and model-ready delivery. Our initial focus is India, Southeast Asia and the wider Global South. These regions account for much of the world’s population, languages, environments and economic activity, yet remain poorly represented in many of the datasets used to develop advanced AI systems.

As BackScoop noted in its coverage, Clairva is addressing this gap by building licensed datasets that better represent the environments, cultures and behaviours of the Global South.

The new capital will be used to expand Clairva’s licensed data-supply network, deepen partnerships with content owners and institutions, strengthen data enrichment and validation capabilities, and support commercial engagements with AI laboratories, robotics companies and enterprise AI teams. It will also support the continued development of Clairva’s proprietary infrastructure for rights tracking, provenance, enrichment, quality control and dataset delivery.

The SaaS News described the round as an investment in strengthening Clairva’s licensed AI data infrastructure and global data network, while Dealroom highlighted the company’s focus on building AI training datasets from India, Southeast Asia and other underrepresented markets.

This funding is an important validation of the problem we are solving. It is not, by itself, proof that the company has succeeded. That proof must come from the infrastructure we build, the customers we serve and the quality and trustworthiness of the data we deliver.

As Clairva co-founder Sunil Nair wrote in his funding announcement on LinkedIn: > Early funding does not prove the company. It gives you the responsibility to prove it. We are grateful to Venture Catalysts and the strategic investors who have backed Clairva at this early stage. Their support gives us both the means and the responsibility to build with greater ambition. The internet gave AI access to recorded information. The next phase will require access to the physical world, with its complexity, context and cultural variation. Clairva is building the data layer for that transition.
